Darvon Maker Pulls Painkiller From US Market

Law360, New York (November 19, 2010, 6:52 PM EST) -- The maker of painkiller Darvon will pull the medication from U.S. shelves at the request of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the agency said Friday.

The FDA said Xanodyne Pharmaceuticals Inc. has voluntarily agreed to withdraw Darvon and the related Darvocet drug, both of which contain the controversial pain-killing ingredient propoxyphene.

The agency said it had also informed generic makers of propoxyphene of Xanodyne's decisions and asked that they also remove their products from the U.S. market.
