School Sued Over Use Of Credit Checks In Hiring

Law360, New York (November 24, 2010, 4:11 PM EST) -- The University of Miami and its medical school have been jabbed with a putative class action alleging that their use of credit reports in the hiring process discriminates against black and Latino job applicants.

The complaint, lodged Nov. 22 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida, claims that the university and its Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine are rejecting job applicants based on their credit history, even though credit history has no bearing on their fitness or ability to perform the work.
