High Court To Hear Microsoft Appeal Of $290M IP Hit

Law360, New York (November 29, 2010, 12:22 PM EST) -- The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday agreed to hear Microsoft Corp.'s appeal of a $290 million judgment that its flagship word-processing software infringes an i4i LP patent for document-formatting technology.

Microsoft is also appealing a permanent injunction issued in that judgment.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit in April denied a motion for an en banc rehearing of the case, pushing aside the defendant's complaints that the lower court had erred in its jury instructions. The appeals court had previously found that the...
