NextEra Settles In Deadly Calif. Wind Turbine Suit

Law360, New York (December 7, 2010, 2:51 PM EST) -- NextEra Energy Resources LLC has agreed to pay $2.5 million and upgrade its decades-old wind turbines in California's Altamont Pass — where thousands of birds are killed every year, including protected golden eagles — as part of a settlement with environmental groups and the state.

Under the settlement announced Monday, NextEra will pay $1.25 million to the state Energy Commission's Public Integrated Energy Research Program and $1.25 million to the East Bay Regional Park District and the Livermore Area Regional Park District for raptor habitat creation....
