'Unfocused, Numb' Stanford Seeks Competency Hearing

Law360, New York (December 13, 2010, 1:21 PM EST) -- Texas financier Robert Allen Stanford has asked a federal court to determine whether he is mentally fit to stand trial in the criminal case accusing him of orchestrating an $8 billion Ponzi scheme.

Stanford filed a bid for a hearing with the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas on Thursday after being found incompetent by a doctor.
