Cancun Talks Preserve UN Climate Change Framework

Law360, New York (December 13, 2010, 8:36 PM EST) -- Negotiators at the United Nations' Cancun, Mexico, climate conference put off hard emissions reduction targets for at least another year but succeeded in keeping a framework that had been threatened with collapse and establishing some preconditions for a deal, experts say.

The conference, which ran from Nov. 29 until early Saturday morning, was marked by low expectations following last year's failure at Copenhagen to come up with a detailed and legally binding agreement to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
