Malaysian Telecom Cos. Eye Alcatel Over Bribes

Law360, New York (January 04, 2011, 2:43 PM ET) -- Alcatel-Lucent SA is facing scrutiny from telecommunications companies after agreeing to pay $137 million to settle allegations that it bribed government officials around the world to secure business contracts.

Two Malaysian telecommunications providers, Telekom Malaysia Bhd. and Axiata Group Bhd., have launched investigations over the allegations, saying Monday that their respective boards had approved the formation of audit subcommittees to conduct “independent and comprehensive” internal investigations into the issue.
