Cravath Reps Qualcomm In $3.1B Atheros Buy

Law360, New York (January 5, 2011, 5:21 PM EST) -- Wireless communications company Qualcomm Inc. agreed to pick up Atheros Communications Inc. for $3.1 billion on Wednesday in an effort to expand its core business beyond cell phones into smartphones and tablet devices.

Qualcomm offered to buy the San Jose, Calif.-based wireless technology company's shares for $45 each, the companies said.

Qualcomm, based in San Diego, is a research and development company that supplies cell phone chips. Atheros supplies wireless capability to consumer electronic products such as smartphones and tablets.
