Pentagon Puts Major Programs On Chopping Block

Law360, New York (January 6, 2011, 5:10 PM EST) -- The U.S. Department of Defense on Thursday detailed plans to shave $150 billion off military budgets over the next five years by reducing overhead, improving performance and pulling the plug on troubled procurements.

The five-year plan is part of Secretary of Defense Robert Gates' comprehensive effort to substantially reduce the department's operating expenses and plow the savings back into improving efficiencies militarywide, to slow the runaway growth of U.S. military spending in the face of skyrocketing federal debt.
