Ariz. District Judge John Roll Slain By Gunman

Law360, New York (January 9, 2011, 6:47 PM EST) -- The chief judge of Arizona’s federal district court was shot and killed Saturday in a shooting spree that claimed at least five other lives and severely injured a U.S. congresswoman.

Chief Judge John M. Roll of the U.S. District Court for the District of Arizona was appointed to the federal bench by President George H.W. Bush in 1991 and worked in the courts for more than 35 years, presiding over a slate of cases on hot-button issues like illegal immigration and gun control.
