NYC Abused Medicaid Programs, US Atty Claims

Law360, New York (January 11, 2011, 7:27 PM EST) -- Federal prosecutors argued Tuesday that New York overcharged Medicaid for a program that provided cleaning, shopping and other basic services to beneficiaries, resulting in tens of millions of dollars in damage to the U.S. government.

In a civil complaint-in-intervention filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara accused the city of violating the False Claims Act, unjust enrichment, negligence and other claims over its alleged mishandling of 24-hour Personal Care Services.
