ITC Probes Schweitzer's Cigarette Paper Patent Claims

Law360, New York (January 18, 2011, 2:15 PM EST) -- The U.S. International Trade Commission is probing Schweitzer-Mauduit International Inc.'s claims that Astra Tobacco Corp. and three other respondents violated federal trade law by importing and selling self-extinguishing cigarette paper wrappers that infringe two of the specialty paper manufacturer's patents.

The ITC said it had voted to investigate the reduced ignition proclivity cigarette paper wrappers on Thursday, a decision that followed a Dec. 17 complaint filed by Schweitzer-Mauduit.
