Intel To License Wi-Lan Portfolio In Patent Deal

Law360, New York (January 14, 2011, 4:47 PM EST) -- Canada-based patent licensing company Wi-Lan Inc. said Friday it had signed an initial agreement with Intel Corp. to resolve litigation over Wi-Lan's patents related to Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, DSL and other technology.

The parties have signed a memorandum of understanding that calls for Intel to take a multiyear license to Wi-Lan's patent portfolio and make a series of undisclosed payments, the Ottawa, Canada-based company said.

An Intel spokesman confirmed the accuracy of Wi-Lan's statement Friday but declined to comment further.
