Law360, New York (April 5, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- When Hurricanes Katrina and Rita blew through the Gulf of Mexico and heavily damaged oil-drilling operations in place there, syndicates of British insurer Lloyd’s of London suddenly found themselves dragged into a legal mêlée. They turned to Rachel Giesber Clingman to get them back on track.

Altogether, the hurricanes destroyed 109 oil platforms and five drilling rigs in the region, which is responsible for producing nearly one-third of U.S. crude oil imports. It also left Lloyd’s facing $2.5 billion in insurance claims.
