Nokia Pays Qualcomm $20M In Licensing Agreement

Law360, New York (April 5, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Though Nokia Corp. agreed Thursday to pay rival Qualcomm Inc. $20 million to license a group of its patents, the payment will not bring an end to the patent feud brewing between the two companies.

The $20 million covers patents relating to the European Telecommunication Standardization Institute, the company said.

“As we continue to negotiate the new cross-license agreement, Nokia views this payment as fair and reasonable compensation for the use of relevant Qualcomm essential patents in Nokia UMTS handsets during the second quarter of 2007,”...
