Steptoe Adds Former Insurance Regulator In NYC

Law360, New York (January 25, 2011, 1:19 PM EST) -- Steptoe & Johnson LLP has bolstered its insurance and reinsurance group by snagging a powerful ex-regulator for its New York office.

Matthew Gaul, formerly the deputy superintendent for life insurance in the New York State Insurance Department, will advise clients on regulatory issues and government investigations, Steptoe announced Tuesday.

At NYSID, Gaul managed a staff of nearly 200 officials charged with regulating the financial stability and sales practices of New York life insurers and overseeing the state’s public pension funds.
