DOL Fines Grain Cos. $1.4M After Worker Deaths

Law360, New York (January 24, 2011, 7:23 PM EST) -- The U.S. Department of Labor on Monday said it fined two Illinois companies almost $1.4 million after the deaths of three workers, including two teenagers, in grain elevator accidents, noting they failed to provide employees proper training and equipment.

The DOL slapped Haasbach LLC and Hillsdale Elevator Co. with a combined $1,352,125 in fines for willful safety and child labor violations following an investigation into the deaths of workers who suffocated after being engulfed by grain.
