Texaco To Pay $1.7M For Ill. Superfund Cleanup

Law360, New York (January 25, 2011, 7:12 PM EST) -- Chevron Corp. subsidiary Texaco Inc. will pay the state of Illinois $1.7 million to settle long-running litigation over the company's alleged contamination of waterways and wetlands near its former refinery site along the Embarras River.

Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan said Monday that the U.S. District Court for the Central District of Illinois approved a consent decree Dec. 29 that required Texaco to transfer to the state about 2,100 acres of land and to pay $1.7 million for habitat enhancement.
