Irish Beef Industry Drops Antitrust Appeal

Law360, New York (January 25, 2011, 4:01 PM EST) -- Irish beef processors have dropped their appeal in a dispute over whether their agreement to pay some slaughterhouse operators to exit the business was anti-competitive, Ireland's antitrust watchdog said Tuesday.

The Beef Industry Development Society Ltd. agreed to withdraw its long-standing challenge to the Competition Authority's decision and to pay a substantial portion of the regulator's costs in the case, the agency said.
