Judge Invalidates Voter Verified Machine Patent Claim

Law360, New York (January 26, 2011, 1:52 PM ET) -- A federal judge has tossed an infringement claim asserted by voting machine maker Voter Verified Inc. against rival Election Systems & Software over a patent for a method of ballot verification.

Judge Patricia C. Fawsett of the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida said that the method for printing out a paper copy of a voter's ballot described by VVI's patents for an electronic voting system was obvious and invalidated VVI's claim in an order issued Tuesday.
