Ga. State Rep. Introduces Ariz.-Like Immigration Law

Law360, New York (January 26, 2011, 6:19 PM EST) -- A group of Republican Georgia state legislators introduced a tough immigration bill Wednesday that shares many features with the controversial 2010 Arizona immigration law.

Most notably, the Illegal Immigration Reform and Enforcement Act of 2011 would give Georgia police officers wide latitude to question a driver’s immigration status during an unrelated traffic stop, one of the most controversial elements of the Arizona law that prompted a lawsuit from the U.S. Department of Justice.
