Lloyd’s Defense Suit Stayed In Insurance Fraud Case

Law360, New York (January 27, 2011, 8:01 PM EST) -- A federal judge agreed Thursday to stay Lloyd’s of London's suit claiming it does not owe legal defense costs for alleged insurance scammer Steven M. Brasner, pending the outcome of the criminal case against Brasner in state court.

Judge Marcia G. Cooke put Lloyd’s suit for declaratory judgment on hold because allowing the parallel proceedings and related discovery motions to move forward could jeopardize Brasner’s Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination, according to her order in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida....
