Law360, New York (January 28, 2011, 1:38 PM ET) -- A proposal to create a limited unified patent protection system in the European Union has cleared its first legislative hurdle and will move on to the entire European Parliament for approval in February.
The European Parliament's Legal Affairs Committee signed off on the plan to use "enhanced cooperation" to launch a single patent covering 12 of the 27 EU member nations by a large margin on Thursday.
