Law360, New York (February 01, 2011, 8:22 PM ET) -- An AES Corp. subsidiary that operates a coal-fired power plant in Connecticut has sought bankruptcy protection amid the rising cost of energy production and a litigation battle with Smurfit-Stone Container Corp. over the termination of a steam sale agreement.
AES Thames LLC filed for Chapter 11 on Tuesday in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware, listing about $162 million in total assets and between $100 million and $500 million in liabilities.
