Merrill Ordered To Give Ex-Broker Her Job Back

Law360, New York (April 11, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Merrill Lynch must rehire a former female broker who won $2.2 million in a sex discrimination law suit against the investment bank, an arbitration panel has ruled.

In a judgment handed down Monday the three-member panel upheld its July 2005 ruling calling for the Wall Street firm to give Hydie Sumner her job back and admit her to the company’s management assessment center.

Sumner was one of 900 female brokers who launched a sex discrimination suit against Merrill in the late 1990s, claiming women were overlooked...
