A Little Credit, Please

Law360, New York (February 17, 2011, 2:29 PM EST) -- According to a recent report by the Society for Human Resource Management, 13 percent of U.S. employers perform a credit check on all job applicants and as many as 60 percent incorporate credit checks into the screening process for at least some job applicants. While a couple of recent court decisions have suggested that such inquiries are both reasonable and permissible, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission has made it clear that it is targeting the practice for even closer scrutiny.
