American, UPS Hit With Data Encryption IP Suits

Law360, New York (February 4, 2011, 1:31 PM EST) -- American Airlines Inc. and United Parcel Service General Services Co. have become the latest companies accused of infringing a U.S. Navy patent covering the transfer of secure information over the Internet.

Security technology company Network Signatures Inc. filed two separate suits on Wednesday in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California.

The Orange County, Calif.-based company is the exclusive licensee of the patent, which was developed by the Naval Research Laboratory, a research and development organization affiliated with the Navy, the suit states....
