Judge Allows Challenge To $545M Farmers Settlement

Law360, New York (February 4, 2011, 6:38 PM EST) -- A California judge has granted a former Farmers Insurance Co. customer the right to challenge portions of a $545 million settlement in a class action against the insurer asserting the company made policyholders overpay for a management fee.

Judge William F. Highberger of the Los Angeles County Superior Court on Thursday greenlighted R.C. Heublein's bid to jump into the case to oppose preliminary approval of the settlement. He also postponed the preliminary settlement approval hearing until March 2.
