Asarco Targets US Steel, Others Over Cleanup Costs

Law360, New York (February 07, 2011, 2:21 PM ET) -- Mining company Asarco LLC, which has paid $150 million to settle its liability regarding Superfund sites in three states, has sued Halliburton Co., U.S. Steel Corp. and others, seeking contribution for their alleged share of the cleanup costs.

The suit, filed Friday in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Missouri, states that the defendants are potentially responsible parties because they had operations at the sites in question, which are situated in the 2,500-square mile Tri-States Mining District in Missouri, Kansas and Oklahoma....
