AT&T, Verizon Sued Over Smartphone Mapping Patents

Law360, New York (February 14, 2011, 6:34 PM EST) -- AT&T Inc., Verizon Communications Inc. and three other phone giants have been hit with a suit alleging infringement of SourceProse Inc.’s patents covering mapping technology used in top-selling smartphones.

Texas-based SourceProse, which filed suit Friday in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas, also named Metro PCS Communications Inc., Sprint Nextel Corp. and T-Mobile USA Inc. as defendants.

The complaint alleges the five companies are selling smartphones manufactured by Apple Inc., Samsung, Nokia Corp. and others that infringe on two of its patents....
