Nev. Residents Sue BP, ARCO Over Mine Pollution

Law360, New York (February 16, 2011, 2:36 PM EST) -- Nevada residents have hit BP America Co. and Atlantic Richfield Co. with a putative class action accusing the companies of contaminating local water supplies and the air with toxic substances from a former copper mine.

In a complaint lodged Monday in the U.S. District Court for the District of Nevada, citizens of Yerington, Nev. contend the companies wrongfully handled arsenic, lead, uranium and other hazardous substances at the Yerington Anaconda Mine and have failed to properly remediate that pollution.
