Man Used NFL Contacts To Fuel $41M Ponzi Plot: Feds

Law360, New York (February 17, 2011, 3:23 PM EST) -- Federal prosecutors have charged the founder of Triton Financial LLC, a former co-sponsor of the Heisman Trophy Trust, with a $41 million Ponzi scheme that used endorsements from former NFL players to convince investors to buy in.

In a 39-count indictment handed down Tuesday in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas, prosecutors allege that Kurt Branham Barton touted the testimonials from former football stars and Heisman Trophy winners in an attempt to legitimize his investments and attract additional victims.
