Tech Entrepreneur Sues Gawker Site For Libel

Law360, New York (February 24, 2011, 2:18 PM EST) -- The owner of a mobile wireless startup sued a Gawker Media LLC website for libel Tuesday in California state court, alleging Gizmodo.com falsely portrayed his company as a “scam” built on “knock-off” technology.

Gizmodo trashed his company despite knowing the statements were false, a key requirement of libel suits under the First Amendment, according to a complaint Peep Wireless Telephony Co. Inc. owner Scott Redmond filed Tuesday in the Superior Court of California, County of San Francisco.
