Suit Targets RadioShack's Applicant Screening

Law360, New York (April 18, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- RadioShack Corp. is the target of a putative class action lawsuit alleging the electronics retailer’s practice of using credit information to evaluate job applicants constitutes discrimination against minorities and violates federal law.

The lawsuit was filed Tuesday in federal court in Tennessee on behalf of named plaintiff Cecil Ellis, an African-American man who was denied a job at RadioShack in 2005, and all similarly situated individuals. The lawsuit estimates the prospective class could number in the thousands.
