Law360, New York (March 03, 2011, 12:59 PM ET) -- CIT Group Inc. and a New Jersey telecommunications company will pay more than $16.5 million to settle a whistleblower suit in California claiming the companies defrauded the government by improperly billing for phone maintenance, federal officials announced Wednesday.
The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Central District of California announced late Wednesday that CIT and Avaya Inc. had finalized payment after a settlement was reached in the case, which was filed under seal in 2004. After the settlement, the case was unsealed Feb. 17.
