Congressman Calls For Student Lender Reforms

Law360, New York (April 18, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The ever-widening student lender scandal demonstrates the need for “emergency reforms” in the industry, according to California Rep. George Miller.

Miller on Wednesday called on the U.S. Department of Education to bring an end to the preferred lender lists that are at the center of the current controversy, and has asked the department to “clearly define and end bribes paid to lenders.”

The Congressman also chastised the DOE for failing to exercise control over the student loan industry.
