$100M Workers Comp Scam Yields 5 Indictments

Law360, New York (April 20, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Five men have been indicted for allegedly taking part in a $100 million scam which left thousands of employees throughout the United States without workers’ compensation insurance coverage.

The U.S. Department of Justice unsealed a 25-count indictment Thursday charging the men with conspiracy, wire fraud, mail fraud and money laundering. The defendants were allegedly involved in a scam that sold “fraudulent, illegal and sham” workers’ compensation insurance coverage through co-conspirator insurance brokers and consultants at several companies between 2001 and 2004.
