Senate Bill Calls For Fracking Chemical Disclosures

Law360, New York (March 16, 2011, 4:11 PM EDT) -- Sen. Bob Casey, D-Pa., reintroduced a bill Tuesday that seeks to require oil and gas companies to reveal the chemicals they use in hydraulic fracturing operations.

The Fracturing Responsibility and Awareness of Chemicals Act, S. 587, would repeal a Bush administration exemption enjoyed by the oil and gas industry and amend the Safe Drinking Water Act’s definition of “underground injection” to include the underground injection of fluids employed in hydraulic fracturing procedures.
