Overpayments Keep Getting Past DOD: Report

Law360, New York (March 18, 2011, 1:54 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Department of Defense has not  taken sufficient steps to document and reduce its rate of accidental overpayments to contractors, employees and others, according to a report released Wednesday by the bureau's internal auditor.

In a report for the first quarter of the 2010 fiscal year, DOD chief financial officer Robert F. Hale failed to review about half of the department’s roughly $300 billion in outlays for “high dollar overpayments,” according to the report by the DOD’s Inspector General.
