UK Weighs Unilever Offer In Alberto-Culver Deal

Law360, New York (March 18, 2011, 5:30 PM EDT) -- Consumer goods giant Unilever PLC has offered to sell off some of Alberto-Culver Co.'s soap brands in order to appease competition concerns over its $3.7 billion acquisition of the company, a U.K. regulator said Friday.

The U.K.'s Office of Fair Trading said it was evaluating the offer after concluding that the deal would "substantial[ly] lessen" competition for bar soap in the country.
