US Backs I4i In High Court Patent Row With Microsoft

Law360, New York (March 21, 2011, 2:52 PM ET) -- The U.S. government added its voice Friday to a growing chorus asking the U.S. Supreme Court to back the status quo in a dispute between Microsoft Corp. and i4i LP over the standard by which patents are declared invalid.

An amicus curae brief filed by Acting Solicitor General Neal Katyal and cosigned by officials from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office said that a ruling in Microsoft's favor would diminish the value of patents.
