Ex-NYC Police Chief Protests Sentence In 2nd Circ.

Law360, New York (March 21, 2011, 1:49 PM EDT) -- Former New York City Police Commissioner and one-time homeland security chief nominee Bernard B. Kerik sought reversal of a sentence for corruption and tax evasion Monday, telling the Second Circuit that he was unfairly punished for angering prosecutors.

Kerik's lawyer, Andrew H. Schapiro of Mayer Brown LLP, argued before a panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit that a district judge acted harshly in sentencing Kerik to four years in prison because of the police chief's critical comments about prosecutors, which were...
