Atty Class Wins Cert. In Title Agent Spat

Law360, New York (March 23, 2011, 7:13 PM EDT) -- Title agents in Connecticut can proceed as a class in their battle to exclude nonattorneys from acting as agents for Chicago Title Insurance Co., Commonwealth Land Title Insurance Co. and others, a federal judge ruled Wednesday.

Judge Christopher F. Droney of the U.S. District Court for the District of Connecticut said lead plaintiff John Q. Gale, a Connecticut real estate attorney, would adequately represent class members, rejecting arguments that allegedly illegal finance practices at his law firm would render him unfit.
