Pentagon Shuts Down Alternate Jet Engine Program

Law360, New York (March 25, 2011, 3:11 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Department of Defense on Thursday moved to kill funding for an alternate F136 joint strike fighter engine procurement, a move critics vowed to fight amid fears it could quell necessary competition in the program.

The DOD issued a 90-day stop-work order, calling the joint strike fighter extra engine program a “waste of taxpayer money that can be used to fund higher departmental priorities.”
