U.S. Anti-Piracy Crackdown To Be Modeled On Wars On Drugs, Terrorism

Law360, New York (October 12, 2004, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The U.S. Justice Department will seek to adopt legal strategies employed in the wars on drugs and terrorism, including wiretapping, in a global crackdown on piracy in the entertainment industry, U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft announced on Tuesday.

Ashcroft unveiled the offensive in Los Angeles, outlining a series of initiatives recommended in a 55-page report by his recently established Task Force on Intellectual Property.
