Forgent Settles Patent Dispute For $20M

Law360, New York (April 26, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Software maker Forgent Networks Inc. has negotiated an 11th-hour licensing deal for a prized patent, settling a lawsuit against a bunch of leading cable providers and satellite broadcasters on the eve of trial.

In a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, Forgent said it had signed agreements effective Thursday with nine of the 15 companies it sued for infringement in a Texas district court almost two years ago.
