Hormel Sues Rival Over Spam Mark

Law360, New York (March 30, 2011, 7:02 PM ET) -- Hormel Foods sued rival Zwanenberg Food Group Inc. in Minnesota on Wednesday for allegedly infringing its trademarks on Spam, the iconic canned meat.

Netherlands-based Zwanenberg broke a promise to stop labeling its Prem canned meat using a color scheme similar to Spam's, Hormel claimed in a suit filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Minnesota. Hormel has a registered trademark on its distinctive labels, which feature yellow writing on a blue background, it alleges in its complaint.
