Velsicol Settles Water Pollution Suit For $26.5M

Law360, New York (March 31, 2011, 1:35 PM ET) -- A Michigan city said Tuesday it had reached a $26.5 million settlement with Velsicol Chemical LLC and other entities over the contamination of its drinking water supply with a manufacturing byproduct of DDT.

Payments by Chartis Specialty Insurance Co., the insurer for Velsicol and related entities, and the Fruit of the Loom Successor Liquidation Trust will help replace the current water system for the city of St. Louis, Mich., closing litigation in the U.S. District for Eastern District of Michigan.
