House Panel To Probe Yucca Nuke Site Abandonment

Law360, New York (March 31, 2011, 7:13 PM EDT) -- A House energy committee said Thursday it was launching a probe into the decision making process that led to the cancellation of plans for the Yucca Mountain nuclear waste repository in Nevada.

The two lawmakers behind the investigation — House Energy and Commerce Committee Chair Fred Upton, R-Mich., and Rep. John Shimkus, R-Ill., chair of the subcommittee on environment and the economy — said they had reviewed evidence indicating that there was no scientific or technical basis for withdrawing the Yucca Mountain application.
