Microsoft Sues DataTern Over Database Patents

Law360, New York (April 08, 2011, 5:23 PM ET) -- Microsoft Corp. filed suit in New York against DataTern Inc. on Thursday, claiming two relational database patents that the defendant has asserted against a slew of major companies are invalid.

The declaratory judgment suit, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, argues that DataTern had referenced Microsoft software in connection with its infringement theories, and that some of the companies facing patent infringement claims have asked the technology giant to defend or indemnify them.
